Materials for Design

In 2006 Doug participated in a Design Corps design-build summer studio, the results of which were published in this book on the innovative use of materials in architecture. The summer studio began with craft courses in carpentry, metalworking, and plastics, then worked intensively with a community in Asheville, NC to design and build a bus shelter. Doug’s area of focus within the team project was the polycarbonate and aluminum roofing system which used a clerestory to allow airflow through while sheltering people from natural elements as they wait for the bus.
